Dr Arthur Anzalone
THE FIRST THING WE DO, LETS KILL ALL THE LAWYERS.
Shakespeare's menacing message was handed down in 1591 (Henry VI, Part 2). About 200 years later, Thomas Jefferson came up with the notion that "it is the trade of lawyers to question everything, yield nothing, and to talk by the hour." There is even an Italian proverb on the subject... Love all men... but not Lawyers." As Americans, including Italian Americans, we often get our entertainment by poking fun at certain professions.. especially someone else's. Now we'll havejust as much fun with a lawyer as the hero of our story. Introducing Di, Arthur Anzalone. one of the good guys at our Italian American Civic Association.
Arthur represents the Italian government in this area as a `Corrispondente Consolare" He provides assistance, free of charge, to italians and Italian Amencans in communicating with the Italian government., particularly in the area of old Age pensions. He joined the Italian American Civic Association in 2003. Since then he has participated in numerous IACA activities and programs,notably our annual Food Festival. Underscored by his role in providing music for the Italian National Anthem at our Club's 2004Columbus Day spectacular. Arthur also is a member of Rotary International, and a 4th Degree member of Knights of Columbus. He and his wife, Rosa, have a son,Arthur David. a Captain in the U.S. Marine Corps.
Like so many of our IACA members, Dr. Arthur Anzalone brings a our Club a Iong tradition and proud history of 35 years of distinguished service in his chosen profession.
A former Vice Consul of Italy for 16 counties in Upstate New York, he was recognized by US. Secretary of State William Rogers, and Later honored by Italian President Francesco Cossiga with the title of Cavaliere Ufficiale (Knight Commander) in the Order of Merit of the Republic of Italy.
Arthur came to the United Stares in 1960 after practicing law in Italy. He holds the degree of Doctor of Law in Italy which included an 8 -year curriculum in Latin and Greek (roughly equivalent to a Ph.D in this country) plus 4 more years in Roman law. In the US., by comparison, students are taught Anglo-Saxon law in 3 years, and are granted a Juris Doctorate upon successful completion. While in Italy, Arthur also served for two years in the Italian Marines evenuially attaining the rank of Captain. His U.S. career reads like a Who's Who in community betterment, primarily in italian American affains Arthur played a pivotal rqle in the establishment of Casa Italiana, a cultural center at Nazareth College in Rochester, New York. including the college's annual Italian Civic League scholarship. Over the years, he has served as Chairman of the Rochester Friuli Relief Fund, Chairman of the Irpinia (Aveilino) Relief Fund.
He also was Chainrian of the Italian American Christopher Columbus Quincentenary Jubilee Celebration and organizer of a delegation of 200 Italian dignitares (10 of them Mayors) representing 14 cities and towns who came from Italy to visit Rochester. The unprecedented event included a gala banquet with proceeds going to the Mary Cariola Children's Center. and was followed by a group tour arranged by Anzalone of New York City, Washington, D.C., Buffalo and Toronto, Arthur also was Co-Founder and Program Director of the Italian radio show, "Panoramo Italiano." He is Past President of the Italian Civic League, the Italian American Sport Club, also the Italian Cultural Club. Plus a past Vice President of the Order of the Sons of Italy in America, and Fast Secretary of the Cosmopolitan Club of Rochester He was a Director of the Italian American Institute of Heraldry. Member of the Consular Corps of the International Consular Academy, Kiwanis International, Italian American Business Association, Italian American Community Center, Sicilian Sport Club, Association of World Travelers. Rochester Association for the United Nations, Rochester YMCA Travel Club, Loyal Order of Moose.
And, as one would expect, Arthur's travel credentials match his singular professional credentials. Mexico, North and South America,the Caribbean Africa, Europe the Middle East. the Pacific Rim.
Yes, indeed. Men of accomplishment such as Shakespeare arid Thonias Jefferson probably would have enjoyed meeting the remarkable Dr. Arthur Anzalune.
